WEBSITE LAUNCH
Friday October 17th

We are now pleased to have pictures for our website launch which was back in October 2003. For the launch, our local Member of Parliament, Mr. Mark Simmonds visited the school to launch the website and also be interviewed by the School Council. The opening took place with 360 pupils from Years 3,4,5 and 6 as well as a body of pupils from Year 6 who helped with the launch. We showed the school some of our web pages, all of which was new to the children, in addition Mr. Simmonds also entered his name in the visitors' book as the first official guest of the site.

Children were all given a special mug on the day. This mug has our new motto on, as well as our badge and website. Here you can see Mr. Mears. our Chairman of Governors and some of the happy recipients.

Mr. Simmonds also took time to talk with and answer questions from our School Council. The meeting took place in our Reading Centre which was approaching completion at the time. On leaving Mr. Simmonds took one of the new mugs which he has vowed to keep and use in his office in Westminster.

Reading Centre Opens January 6th 2004

Reading Centre opens. On Tuesday January 6th 2004 the Reading Centre was finally opened. The centre which was once open to the sky has been roofed over in recent years and then decorated. This last year has seen the final touches of furniture and decoration with a stage adding as well as comfortable chairs and of course a supply of books, games and other activities.

The Centre was officially opened by Mr. Mears the Chairman of Governors. The pictures on this page show children at the official opening as well as some of the new centre. From today children will be having their first taste of using the Reading Centre and afterwards it is to be used on a regular basis by all classes as a quiet area for reading.

Tower Road Primary School recieved another award this year. The school has already been awarded the Football Association Charter Mark. This award recognises the quality and the width of opportunity that the school provides for football within  the curriculum and through the clubs and other links the school has. It recognises the level of support and teaching that is available through the school and the part the school plays within the local community. The school has been nominated for the National award which is open to all schools. The school has been named as the Lincolnshire winner for this year, with the award of a gold medal. The award will be presented this week within school.

School of the Year Award

Tower Road has for several years been a Charter Standard School. This is an award the school won through the opportunities and range of football activities the school offers to its children. This was awarded by the Football Association. This year the school was nominated and won the title "School of the Year" for Lincolnshire as a Charter Standard School. This was a great  honour for the school and recognises the amount of time and effort the school puts into its sporting activities. The nomination noted the opportunities offered to boys and girls within the curriculum for football and also through the after-school clubs. The qualifications of teachers, support staff and parents was also noted. The school also runs a Fantasy League Football competition thorugh the year for children in Years 5 and 6. With this being the World Cup Year the school also ran a special World Cup day across the school with a wide range of activities for all children. In addition to the work in school, the school plans and provides several competitions for the schools across the Boston area.
Ray Tinkler, the local Football Association representative and Rob King, the Lincolnshire Football Development Officer visited the school to present the award. Along with the award they brought a present of football training equipment for the school.

Congratulations to all involved.

Midlands School of the Year 2006
Rob and Ray Return
Following the schools's first award of the Charter Standard School of the Year for Lincolnshire. The school has collected a further award. The nomination was forwarded to the Football Association. The school was judged alongside the winners from all the counties in the Midlands ( Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk etc). Tower Road emereged victorious. Rob said our nomination and the levelof support for football within the school stood out above all the othger nominations. This puts tower Road in the final four regional winners to go through to the National finals.
Ray Tinkler and Rob King visited us on Friday December 1st to present us with a cheque for £250.00 as winners, along with more football equipment. Rob presented the equipment from Umbro, which is the same standard and quality as the professionals use, on the basis that if its good enough for them then children learning their football should have the same facilities. In the pask were sets of football, training ladders, kit bags, cones and markers.
Whilst with us Ray and Ray also assisted with the assembly by presenting swimming awards, Caliafornia Raisin football awards, Manager of the Month for the Schools Football Fantasy League to India and Mr Pike, as well as the headteacher's award to two Year6 pupils.
Ray and Rob did not goaway empty handed. They both received a "Tower Road" mug to remember their visit here. The mug also has our website on so they can both check up on our football reports to see how the teams are doing.

Healthy School Status

Tower Road Primary School staff and governors are proud to announce that we have achieved our goal of being awarded "Healthy School Status" by July 2007.
We were notified at the very end of the Summer term that we had been successful with our application and that it was'one of the best evidence folders ever submitted.'
As a school, we are very proud of this achievement, as it has involved a lot of hard work from everyone involved and more importantly, how working towards this award has improved the life at Tower Road for all its pupils. We should like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for supporting us as we have implemented all our new initiatives which include:-
new water fountains with built-in cooler systems
access to water during the day
friut at snack time
playground equipment for all year groups
raised awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles and eating
developed travel plan
revised personal, social and health education

Today has been a special day at Tower Road as the whole school has been celebrating our success. Everyone has enjoyed a fantastic performance by "Captian Carrot". Each year group has been busy with lots of different activities in classrooms, including making fruit salads, making 'smoothies', designing healthy posters and slogans and circuit training.
As delighted as we are to have achieved "Health School Status" we need the continued support of yourselvesand the children as we are monitored by external agencies to ensure that we further develop the school in this area.

THANK YOU!
