SCHOOL ADMISSION POLICY
Tower Road Primary School
The Governors have made the following arrangements with respect to the admission of pupils
to the school: -
The published Admission Number for the school is 90 and applies to the year of entry
and all other year groups.
Pupils will be admitted to the school at the beginning of the academic year
in which they are 5*
* Children who will be five between 1st. September 2010 and 31st. August
2011 will start in the Autumn Term 2011.
Where applications for admissions exceed the number of places available the
following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide
which children to admit: -
a) A child in the care of the Local Authority.
b) A sister or brother attends the school at the time of admittance.
c) Straight line distance from the school to the home.
The tie-breaker will be the straight line distance
*Definitions
(1) Sibling:
A full brother or sister, whether or not resident in the same household.
Another child normally resident for the majority of term time in the same
household, for whom an adult in the household has parental responsibility as
defined in the Children Act 1989.
In the case of twins (or two siblings in the same age cohort) and where
there is only one place available in the school, both will be considered
together as one application. The school will be authorised to exceed its
Admission Number by one, except if this breaches infant class size
regulations. In this case parents will be given the choice, either to accept
one place available and place in a different school for the other twin.
(2) Distance from home to school
This will be measured in a straight line by the Local Authority using their Microsoft MapPoint
software or such other processes the Local Authority adopt for schools under their authority
using the distance between the Post Office address point of the home
and the Post Office map point of the school.
The 'front gate' of the house is taken to be the nearest
point from the path; drive or track from the front door meets the public
highway, including an unadopted road.
(3) Child's home
Where a child lives with parents with shared responsibility each of the part week,
the home address will be determined by the nearest in
accordance with the criteria set out in (c).
In the event of a refusal of a place being made, parents have the right of
appeal to an Independent Panel against that decision and will be given
details of the appeals procedure at that time.
NEW INTAKE ARRANGEMENTS
Following the allocation of places, parents of children starting in September will be invited to
an evening meeting for parents and the new children will be invited to spend time in school and
meet their new teachers in the Summer Term.
