It is the responsibility of parents to ensure all reasons for absence are reported to the school . A child who arrives late can be recorded as an unauthorised absence . Parents do not have a right to take their child on holiday during school sessions, but if it is unavoidable permission must be obtained from the Headteacher. This school takes a strong view on bullying and aims to create a positive atmosphere in which all members of the school community feel safe, secure and have confidence in themselves.
COMPLAINTS PROCEDURES
Curriculum Related Matters
Where possible concerns expressed by parents and others about the school curriculum or related matters will be dealt with in the first instance by informal discussion with the teachers and the Headteacher. However, there maybe occasions when such concerns cannot be resolved informally and under the terms of the 1988 Education Reform Act, a formal complaints procedure exists which offers a readily accessible and clearly understood route through which complaints of this nature may be pursued further. A document setting out the procedure is availablefor inspection at the school and a copy can be given if desired to any person wishing to make a complaint under these arrangements.
General Matters
If a parent wishes to make a complaint, normally the first person to contact should be the child's class teacher. If the problem cannot be resolved, then a visit to the Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher would be advisable. In most cases, between us, we can solve the difficulty. Should you wish to take the matter further, the School Governors are the next people to contact.
MEET THE TEACHERS
Parents are always very welcome to come into school whenever they have a concern or worry about thgeir child but we always hope to see parents at least twice a yearat thge more "formal" meet the teachers evenings in October and February. Parents of Reception children are invited to a "Reception Curriculum" evening in October and a "formal" meeting in February to discuss their child's progress.

If your child is to have his/her ears pierced can they please have it done during a long holiday. Body piercing is also not permitted. We also expect all pupils to dress smartly with "sensible" hairstyles which conform to the general expectations of the school and do not encourage "bullying" remarks form other children.

CARING FOR YOUR CHILD
Emergency Evacuation
In the unlikely event that we have to evacuate the entire premises it has been agreed that we will transfer all staff and children to the sfaety of St. Bede's Secondary School on Tollfield Road.
Pupil Welfare
Every member of the teaching and non-teaching staff is involved in the welfare of your child. On your child's admission to school, you will be asked to give details of your address, telephone number, and place of work, Doctor's name and Surgery.
We would ask you please to notify us if you change any of these so that we can keep this essential information upto date. It is important that we also have an emergency contact number when you are unavailable.
MEDICINES IN SCHOOL
If a child is well enough to attend school and is required to complete a prescribed amount of medicine a form must be completed, which is available from the school office. Parents may hand medicines, clearly labelled and detailing dosage, in at the school office and be collected at the end of the day. The smallest amount practicable should be sent. We will do our best to remember to give the medicine but cannot be responsible for doing so. We should prefer that if a child is in need of medicine they remain at home. Before you send a child back to school after an illness, please ensure that he/she can cope with the whole day. Occasionally children will be temporarily excluded from school if they have an infection which necessitates children being kept away from other children.
We have a school nurse who visits the school regularly and is always willing to answer queries from parents. However, parents are required to complete a consent form before any contact with a child can take place.Telephone - Boston Health Centre 360880 and ask for Miss J. Howarth.
ACCIDENTS AND ILLNESS AT SCHOOL
Despite our precautions, there may be an occasional accident, or a child may become ill whilst at school. Parents are notified as quickly as possible, hence the importance of an up to date contact telephone number. If a parent or guardian cannot be contacted when a child suffers an accident requiring further attention then a member of staff will accompany the child to the hospital .
SCHOOL REPORTS AND RECORDS
Parents of a registered child has access to all their child's educational records and will be given an annual school report. We always let parents know as much detail as possible about their child's progress, we feel that teachers and parents should be in partnership in the education of our children. All children receive a written report in the Summer term and in addition in Years 2 and 6, children will receive results of formal Tests and Teacher Assessment in English and Mathematics.
CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
Provision is made within the normal curriculum for any child with a learning difficulty or special need. Any problem diagnosed by the class teacher will be provided for within the class as far as possible, in a variety of ways according to the need. The class teacher is always available to discuss concerns of parents regarding children's progress who will discuss further if necessary with Mr. Loyd, Special Needs Coordinator. A copy of Special Education Needs (SEN)- a guide for parents and carers is available in school.
EXTENDED LEARNING- Beyond the school gates.
Learning beyond the school is an essential part of the good education to which all our children are entitled.Extended learning is not just about reinforcing learning in the classroom, although that is important. Extended learning provides opportunities for children and young people to develop the skills, attitudes and enthusiasm they will need for successful, independent lifelong learning.
Extended learning supports the development of independent learning skills, so enquiry and investigation are essential aspects of the learning process. Given the increasing importance to everyone of flexibility and the ability to learn independently, developing these skills and attitudes are central aim for Tower Road Primary School.
"Extended learning" refers to any work or activities which pupils are asked to do outside lesson time or voluntarily either on their own or with parents, carers or other siblings. The work/activities can be both formal or informal in nature including physical pursuits and clubs.
Teachers will set EXTENDED LEARNING tasks for children to be completed at home. The school has an "Extended Learning Information Leaflet" which outlines the type and appropriateness of tasks that teachers will give to children. Please take a copy.
Extended Learning Activities set by the school can include - planned work relating to the Core Subjects, research and reference work, reading for pleasure and for reference, spellings and phonics practise, mental number skills including tables and number bonds, preparing to give a talk to the rest of the class, collecting data and information for future work, keeping a log or diary.
PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EDUCATION
The Planning for Life programme which includes Sex Education is introduced throughout the school as an integral part of the Personal, Social and Health Education Curriculum. Topics and questions are introduced sensitively as well as being presented in the context of family life, of loving relationships and of respect for others. Parents are kept informed of new developments and staff are always available to discuss any concerns that parents may have . The Governors recognise the importance of a good home/school partnership when preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. The ethos of the school is to develop positive attitudes, self-esteem and give children the confidence to make choices for themselves.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Tower Road is not a church school, but faith in God and acceptance of Christian values is the spiritual backbone although a study of other faiths is a feature in our curriculum. The school follows the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for the Teaching of Religious Education. This new syllabus will enable pupils to seek knowledge and understandingof religions and help them in their search to develop their own beliefs, values and perceptions, encouraging a respect for the right of people to hold views and beliefs that may differ from their own.
Every parent has the right to request that their children be excused from Religious Education and Acts of Collective Worship. Such requests should be made in writing to the Headteacher.
