Tower Road 2 – 1 St Thomas’
It was the end of the month and the end of the run in the Woodthorpe Cup for the impressive St Thomas’. For Tower Road it was the 66th time they had won the cup out of 92, so all of the team and Mr Bashford (manager) were extremely pleased!!!!!
Tower Road got off to a great start with a long clearance from Elliott, falling to Damian's feet who passed it to Reece who was waiting patiently on the edge of the area putting Tower Road in the lead.
St Thomas’ bounced straight back attacking at every chance, but the goal came just before halftime. It was an amazing free kick that flew into the top corner giving the keeper (Jacob) no chance. (If you tried to head it, it would have knocked you out!)
Both teams were ready for a well deserved rest at half time, and were raring to go for the second half.
In the first five minutes both teams had chances to put their schools ahead. Sam, for Tower Road, stopped the away team strikers from doing damage on many occasions with some crunching tackles. It was also Sam who scored the winning goal with a Beckham bender into the far corner to give Tower Road yet another Woodthorpe Cup victory.
The home team defended the score, brilliantly, not letting St Thomas’ play the ball about. It was all feet to the deck as the final whistle blew.
Tower Road legend Mr Pike very kindly presented the winners and the runners up trophies to each of the teams.
WELL DONE!!!!
