Boston Schools’ Swimming Gala Saturday March 6th.

Another successful year! This year’s 14 strong Tower Road team met at the swimming pool. Tension was high! All were very excited!
Only 9 schools entered teams from the Boston area this year. So we were split into 2 groups, medium and large schools. Tower Road was grouped with Hawthorn Tree, Carlton Road and St Thomas.
We got off to a good start, winning the first race, with St Thomas’ in second place. In the second race Hawthorn Tree came first with Charlton Road. Then Tower Road took first place in the third race. By the end of race 8 the scores were St Thomas’ 26 points, Carlton Road 30 points, Hawthorn Tree 41 points and Tower Road 44 points. Very close!! There was everything to play for. Tower Road held the lead by only 3 points, with Hawthorn Tree in second place.
Both Hawthorn Tree and Tower Road secured 2 wins each in the breast stroke races that followed. So once again every depended on the relays. In the freestyle relay race, Tower Road won by nearly a length! Hawthorn Tree came in second and St Thomas’ third. In the medley relay it was a similar result except Carlton Road came third.
The whole team were ecstatic! Especially as they were bringing the trophy back to school for the 20th year!
The results of the groups were as follows:
Medium schools: St Mary’s 1st place, Butterwick 2nd, Sibsey 3rd and Wyberton 4th.
Large schools: Tower Road 1st place, Hawthorn Tree 2nd, Carlton Road 3rd and St Thomas’ 4th.

Once again after the children’s races there was the Parent/Teacher relay race. This is the third year that this race has been included. The children thoroughly enjoy watching them race! There were teams from Sibsey, Tower Road and Hawthorn Tree. Adding a twist to it his year, the two fastest swimmers in each team were handicapped by swimming with a toggle. It was close, but the Tower Road team pulled off another successful win!!
